White molds on colour pencils?

I have a set of colour pencils from Faber-Castell that have white molds on them. What are these molds? Do you think I could stop its growth by applying ethanol on it?
I immersed the colour pencils in ethanol and tiny gas bubbles were formed as soon as I immersed it. So what actually happened there?

some color pencils are waxed based, and may oxidize specks of white, but you mention Faber-Castell brand, and those are oil based, still there may be some type of oxidation with the elements in the color lead of pencil, check that it is not the wood, or residue from paper previously used,
and yes if needed, wipe of with isopropyl rubbing alcohol, or mild cleaner, and re-sharpen
(ethanol) is fuel, may not be good for wood,
