So why is it so hard to get rid of cat and kitty litter odor? It has to do with Uric Acid. Uric acid is one of the main components of cat urine, it is what gives off that horrible smell. The problem comes when uric acid crystalizes. It creates a strong bond to whatever material it is on, and it does not dissolve in water. So this makes for a very difficult odor to remove.
So let’s take a look at the 3 best ways to get rid of cat odor.
3) Baking Soda
Baking soda is well known for being an odor eliminator, and in cat urine’s case, it also works… to a degree. If you mix some baking soda in some water, and pour it on the “accident” spot, it will make the uric acid more soluable. This means that you can take a cloth and soak up some of the uric acid, however it will take a lot of applications to get rid of the smell completely.
You can also sprinkle some baking soda on the bottom of a kitty litter pan, this will help with kitty litter odor.
2) Natures Miracle Just For Cats
Natures Miracle Just For Cats was made just for this purpose, so it better be good, right? Right… They did a great job on this product. All you need to do is spray/pour the product onto the target spot, and that’s it. It uses enzymes to break down the uric acid, and in the end your left with no odor. The reviews for this product are good, so check it out, it should do the trick.
3) Fresh Wave Odor Neutralizer
This won’t remove the smell at the source, however, it can remove the smell in a room. It is particularly good if you have a stinky kitty litter room. All you need to do is open the container, and that’s it. Reviews from cat lovers, and stinky households alike give this product great reviews.
Hope this helps you out.

What should I do about my kitty cat?
My cat likes to sleep on the vent in the bathroom, behind the vanity where I cant see it. Trouble is every time I go in there to poop, the cat comes out and likes to stare at me when I’m pooping and I get stage fright and cant poop. I try throwing stuff at the cat to make it leave, but the only thing in reach is usually the toilet paper. I tried barking at it like a dog but nothing works. What should I do?
What’s the ‘scorpion maneuver’?
Stare back at him without blinking for as long as possible. If this fails, perform the well-known scorpion maneuver while grunting loudly before throwing the poop, (or what he thinks is the poop – maybe use some chocolate cake or plastic joke poop) at him. If the image of the scorpion maneuver doesn’t scare him out, the thought of having his fur messed by human feces will! =D
Edit to additional info: The Scorpion Maneuver is a tried and tested technique used by millions of people around the world on a daily basis.
Basically, while sitting on the toilet, you want to lean forward and wrap your arms around the back of your legs, stretching to grab your ankles. Once you have a firm enough grip, attempt to stand up (while still holding on). It is at this point that you want to grunt loudly enough to startle the feline voyeur into fleeing from the bathroom.
Hope this helps!
