How to loosen up a hard tube of oil paint?
I have a huge tube of Grumbacher oil paint, almost full and just a few years old. I do not think it should be hard already, but it is. Is there any way to make it soft again? It will not even squeeze out of the tube.
put the lid on tightly, soak the tube in very hot water for a half hour, and see if it softens the paint. if that doesnt happen, then it is mostly dried up, and your best bet is to cut it open and see if its still moist in the center, in which case you may still be able to salvage some. sure, you’ll destroy the tube, but, at least you’ll know you got some out, and got a little bang for your buck. use the rest by smearing it on a canvas and calling it abstract. boom, an instant work of art.
