is plastic canvas stitching done like cross stitching?
I have done cross stitching and want to try plastic canvas crafts and was wondering if its done the same as cross stitching .
Originally, it was called ‘plastic NEEDLEPOINT canvas’ and mostly needlepoint stitches were used on it. However, it’s very adaptable stuff and can be used however you like – many newer plastic canvas projects incorporate a mix of cross-stitch, needlepoint, and even crewel stitches. If you feel like exploring, the most common needlepoint stitches for making a smoothly-covered background are the continental, the basketweave, and the half-cross (instructions at ‘about.com’ link below). You can also use ‘long-stitch’ techniques (Stitchopedia instructions).
However you choose to stitch your canvas, enjoy!
