Taffeta, any potential as a baby name?
No I’m not planning on pinning this name on a child, I just saw it on this site of unusual baby names and wondered what people thought about it:
Taffeta (formerly sometimes spelled taffety) is a crisp, smooth woven fabric made from silk or synthetic fibres. The word is Persian in origin, and means “twisted woven.” It is considered to be a “high end” fabric, suitable for use in ball gowns, wedding dresses, and in interiors for curtains or wallcovering.
Drawback – It sounds a little like “fetish” and some taffeta is made out of silk (which is not vegan)
Tabitha would probably be better.
Haha, Taffeta used to be my favourite girl’s name when I was about 15! I loved the way the word Taffeta sounded, and I thought it’d be the prettiest name for a little girl – I loved the thought of Taffy as a nickname too. Everyone I mentioned it to looked horrified, but at the time I completely adored it. I’ve come to my senses now though – although the word Taffeta does have a very pretty sound to it, I think it sounds pretty tacky as a baby name, kind of like naming your baby Velvet or Satin. :]
