how can i tell if my bike wheel hub supports disc brakes?
a friend of mine has extra disc brakes around, which he will let me take. I know that my bike frame supports disc brakes, but i dont know if the wheel hub does.
If your hubs have six threaded holes on the left hand side (see first link) then yes, they will take what is known as ‘standard six bolt’ discs. Alternatively if they (the hubs) have a splined section (see second link) on the left hand side, then they will take Shimano ‘centre lock’ discs.
If the discs your friend is offering or good quality but the rotors (discs) are the wrong fitting for your hubs (assuming your hubs are either 6 bolt or centre lock) then it would be well worth buying adaptors or new rotors. (ask in a good bike shop)
